Easter is one of the most beloved celebrations in Jamaica - a time of faith, family, and joy. A beautifully crafted pop-up card is one of the most thoughtful and memorable gifts you can give, and with a little patience and creativity, you can make stunning ones at home.
At Lulu's Workshop, our Easter pop-up cards have become a seasonal favourite - but we also love helping crafters create their own. Here's a beginner-friendly guide to making a simple Easter pop-up card.
What You'll Need
- 2 sheets of cardstock (one for the card base, one for the pop-up mechanism)
- Coloured paper or printed Easter imagery (eggs, bunnies, crosses, spring flowers)
- Scissors and a craft knife (X-Acto knife)
- Bone folder for clean folds
- PVA glue or double-sided tape
- Markers, watercolours, or stamps for decoration

Step 1: Create the Base Card
Fold your main cardstock in half to create your card base. Score the fold line with a bone folder for a crisp, clean edge. This is the foundation of your card. Choose a colour that complements your Easter theme - white and cream work beautifully as neutral bases, while pastel yellow or lavender adds a seasonal touch.
Step 2: Design Your Pop-Up Mechanism
The classic "box" pop-up is perfect for beginners. On a separate piece of cardstock, cut two parallel slits about 1 inch apart and 1.5 inches deep. Fold the resulting tab forward and crease sharply - this becomes the platform your decorative element sits on. For a more advanced design, create multiple tabs at different heights to give your card depth and dimension.

Step 3: Attach Your Easter Elements
Cut out your Easter decorations - a rising cross for a Christian Easter theme, a baby chick emerging from an egg, or a bouquet of spring flowers. Attach them to your pop-up platform with glue. Layer multiple elements at different heights for a truly stunning three-dimensional effect that will surprise and delight the recipient.
Step 4: Assemble and Decorate
Glue your pop-up section inside your base card, making sure it's perfectly centred. Close the card carefully to ensure the mechanism folds flat. Then decorate the front and inside with colour, stamps, and a heartfelt message. Consider adding small embellishments like glitter, ribbon, or dried pressed flowers for extra texture and visual interest.
